Historical Society – Provider of Historical Information through Four Local Museums

Jan 24, 2011 | 7:44 PM

The Historical Museum is only one of the four museums in Prince Albert.

A lot of people don’t know that there are that many museums in Prince Albert.

There are two museums up by the Tourism Center; the Rotary Museum of Police and Corrections and the Evolution of Education Museum.

The Diefenbaker House is in a residential area on the West Hill where the Diefenbakers’ lived for 10 years.

The final museum, and the one that most people know about is the Historical Museum, which for many will always be known as the old Firehall.

The Society is a volunteer run organization, with 2 paid staff that take care of the 4 museums; Jamie Benson is the manager, who has been with the society for almost 10 years; Michelle Taylor is the program manager, and has been with the museum for amost 3 years.

Our volunteers look after many aspects of the running of the museums including cleaning and accessioning artifacts, working in the Bill Smiley archives, and being involved with our monthly membership meetings.

If you would like to be involved with or join the Society please call the Historical Museum at 764-2992.
