Home Care/Special Care Aides in Your Community

What does the job include?

The Home Care/Special Care Aide position provides personal care and assistance with activities of daily living for clients, patients, and residents, meeting their physical, emotional and spiritual needs.

Personal care given includes providing bathing and grooming services (e.g., hair care, shaves, nail care, make-up), clothing assistance, oral care, bowel care, and treatments as per patient care plans.  Special Care aides (SCAs) also monitor and assist with meals and nutritional needs, provide mobility assessment and assistance, as well as various indirect patient care tasks.

What is needed to work in this position?

The Continuing Care Assistant Certificate is required for working in this position.  The CCA Certificate can be obtained through Regional Colleges, Prince Albert, Regina & Saskatoon SIAST as well as Distance Learning options.

Employment opportunities can be found in hospitals, long term care, integrated facilities, and home care.
