Paramedic Services Week

May 31, 2018 | 8:00 AM

Remember the song from Sesame Street, who are the people in your neighborhood, in your neighborhood. They are the people that you meet when you are walking down the street. They are the people that you meet each day! That really describes our paramedics who are just your average citizen but when they come to work and step into their uniform, they are like a super hero without a cape.

To the mother whose baby is not breathing during a seizure. To a family whose loved one suffers a cardiac arrest on the living room floor. To the family whose loved one is involved in a tragic incident, paramedics are there. Paramedics are these special out of hospital specialists that with a wide variety of medications and advanced technology can make the difference in someone’s life. In the early years, paramedics cared for you with limited training and limited resources but now 43 weeks of training alone for the primary care paramedic is the norm. Technology plays a huge role in the ability of paramedics to help you. With these evolving and expanding care roles paramedics make the difference.

Paramedics primarily work in ground ambulance services but through evolving health partnerships paramedics might be seen coming to your home to provide care keeping you from extended hospital stays. Working with other health partners paramedics can and do play an emerging role in out of hospital care. Our paramedics are also great leaders in injury prevention programs. Car seat education, free blood pressure and blood sugar clinics, community or school visits, first aid training and other community education opportunities show the ever-expanding role of paramedics. You are the most important piece of the health care equation. As part of the health care team, paramedics work to provide you with exceptional care each time we meet.

The men and women of Parkland Ambulance Care, lead the way in providing you with great care. From the time we arrive at your emergency, you can be assured our professionals will do their best. The care you receive at home means that sometimes we won’t rush to the hospital because of the need to start care on scene. Other situations bring a great sense of urgency where time is essential. Knowing when to react, how to react and what to do is what the paramedic trains for. The compassion, genuine concern and caring approach our paramedics bring to you shows the true spirit of our team. You and your family need to know we will do everything we can to help for the profession we have chosen is all about helping. Helping to get better, feel better but learn alternatives to prevent injury.

This week, May 27-June 2, is Paramedic Services Week. We thank our paramedics for the great work they do! We thank you for having trusted us to care for your loved ones.
