Frieze Carpet

Apr 17, 2018 | 10:00 AM

Frieze carpet is a twist carpet that is a very popular trend today and is a modern version of yesterdays shag.

It is like the old shag, however, rakes are not required. The new “shag” has longer and skinnier fibers then old shag. Frieze is not as dense as textured saxony but is very durable due to the twist. (Textured Saxony is a solid color that is manufactured with fibers that are kinked and running in multiple directions that helps to hide the footprints)

The pros to frieze is the durability as well as the long fibers. When the fibers are long they tend to flop over, and the blooming occurs in the side of the fibres, not the ends. (Blooming is the unravelling of the twist)

Another pro is seaming Frieze carpets. The Fibers are usually very soft and since the twists are longer the seams aren’t usually visible.
