The Prince Albert Branch of the Learning Disabilities Association of Saskatchewan (LDAS) is pleased to present this article to assist people living with ADHD as adults or as parents of ADHD children, or family members of individuals with ADHD.  LDAS hopes that these articles provide knowledge, and some useful strategies or skills to improve lives of people challenged by this disorder. ADHD is marked most often by chronic inattention, impulsivity, hyperactivity or a combination of those behaviors. These behaviors are often coupled with inconsistency in their performance of tasks and behaviors. ADHD occurs most often in children but for approximately two thirds of the children diagnosed, the disruptive behaviors continue to affect many aspects of their adult lives. The most common treatment is the use of prescribed medications to reduce the symptoms and effects of the disorder.

This article will look at some resources on ADHD that individuals, parents and families might be able to adapt into their lives. Most of the resources can be found on-line or are apps that can be downloaded to your smart phone, computer or other electronic devices. Many of the apps are free or available for free trail periods. Other resources include on-line magazines blogs, or published articles or documents. LDAS does not promote any of these topics but rather suggests these items for your perusal, information and discretion. If you find some information that fits your situation, try it out. Remember that you may have to use the strategy or skill many times before you know if the outcomes are lasting. You are not seeking perfection but rather improvement. Small steps often have better results that trying too much at one time. Use what you can.

One of the resources that we have found with the broadest approach is the Additude Magazine that is available on line at www.additudemag.com. There are sections on parenting skills, adult issues, lifestyle issues, school problems, treatment issues, blogs and references to many other resources and organizations. Just about any issue you can imagine can be found on these pages. You can even subscribe to weekly newsletters. You are encouraged to check it out and the best part is that it is FREE!

There are also a multitude of free podcasts and webinars that can describe and explain what ADHD is, strategies and supports to assist one living with ADHD. You may have to put up with advertising for the ADHD products and services but there is a lot of useful material available.
