EYE PRODUCTS TO PREVENT OR CORRECT

Jun 5, 2013 | 10:53 AM

Eye products, if they are of good quality ingredients and have clinically proven cosmetic ingredients in them, can get a visible improvement in the look of your eye area. They can slow down aging and keep your eye area looking young longer or they can correct and improve an already mature eye area.

Look for peptides or vitamin C to improve aging like a crepe paper texture under the eye. Look for argiriline to reduce expression lines like crowsfeet. Caffeine and vitamin K will move fluids so the upper eye lid or bags under the eye are more streamlined. Caffeine, like in green tea, and vitamin K, like in spinach, will also reduce darkness under the eye if used regularly and applied correctly.

Of course, wear sunglasses. Celebrities don’t just wear them to try – unsuccessfully – to hide. They wear them to protect the eye area from damaging sun exposure. The thicker the temples of the sunglasses are, the better.

Eye creams are best suited for a normal to dry or mature skin. Eye gels are better suited for a normal to oily or younger skin. That’s a guideline. Buy the one with the texture that you enjoy the most. That way you’ll use it instead of it sitting in a drawer. Often, there is a lot of overlap in ingredients between the cream style and gel style anyway.

Apply eye products over clean skin. Wait 2 to 3 minutes before applying anything else, so your eye product has a chance to absorb and work for you. Day moisturizers can go overtop, as can many night time repair products. However, do not use products in the eye area that have a high concentration of exfoliating ingredients or ingredients that encourage cellular turnover, like retinol. These ingredients are not a friend to a young firm eye area.
