Movie Madness

Feb 10, 2012 | 7:00 AM

It should be a great weekend at the movie theatre. There are four decent movies all debuting this week.

“Star Wars 3D”: While the image of Jar Jar Binks in 3D is truly frightening, I am intrigued by the idea that all six of the “Star Wars” movies are being shown in 3D. Some will say George Lucas is just trying to soak more money out of this franchise, but I say, so what? I will remain a Star Wars geek until the day I die. “The Phantom Menace” was by far the biggest disappointment of the franchise but the “the big race” and “Darth Maul final fight scene” should be worth the price of admission alone. If there is any movie that was destined to be shown in 3D, it would be “Star Wars.” So whether you were a fan of this movie the first time around or not, you will want to check this out. Go now and may the force be with you.

“Journey 2: The Mysterious Island”: The Rock says go see this movie. Just kidding. While I am a huge fan of Dwayne Johnson’s wrestling career, I have also been impressed with his career as a Hollywood leading man (ok ok so Tooth Fairy sucked pretty bad). When I saw the preview I instantly thought “Jurassic Park” meets “Indiana Jones.” On the mysterious Island, elephants are the size of pet cats, and bugs are the size of dinosaurs. This should be a fun movie. The addition of Michael Caine gives this movie a bit more star power

“The Vow”: Warning! Warning! This is a major chick flick alert. All my female friends have been talking about this movie for weeks. Gentlemen, start working on your best excuses to avoid getting dragged to this “mush fest.” On the other hand, this could be an opportunity to score some big points with your lady. Basically the plot goes as follows…a woman(Rachel McAdams) is involved in a car crash…..falls into a coma… wakes up with a major case of amnesia……husband(Channing Tatum) works to win her back. Ummmmm anyone else have a “Notebook” flashback?

Safe House: Out of all four movies, this is the movie I am looking most forward to seeing. Denzel Washington does not make a bad movie; and in this movie he looks badass. The ladies will come out to see Ryan Reynolds. Reynolds plays the role of a young CIA agent who has the daunting assignment of looking after fugitive(Washington) in a safe house. Somebody gets double -crossed and the Safe House gets attacked. Washington and Reynolds are on the run and together they hunt down whoever is responsible. Spies……explosions……I am sold. Remember the bad guy from Terminator 2? He is also in this movie.

I’ll have reviews on Monday for at least two of these movies. Have a great weekend.
