“The Grey” worth the price of admission

Feb 7, 2012 | 12:17 PM

So while everyone was busy watching the Superbowl(Yay Giants!!), I was busy preparing for my first movie review column. Sunday night’s pick was “The Grey” starring Liam Neeson.

I will admit I went into the theatre thinking this would be another “Alive”[1] knock off. I had heard soom good reviews though so I thought it was worth at least a look, and I am very glad that I went with my instincts.

Not withstanding the fact that Liam Neeson is one of my favourite actors, this is a very good movie.

There is definitely no black and white plot to “The Grey”. This is much more than a movie about a plane crash and man’s battle with nature. There are parts of this movie that will give you the chills. There are parts that will tug at your heart; and there are parts that will inspire you.

The scenery is beautiful. Anyone that has worked on the rigs or had to work up north, will be able to relate to the characters in this movie.

If there is one thing that bugs me most at the theatre, it’s parents who bring their small children to movies like this. I noticed there were a few families in the audience with small children. There are some frightening scenes in this movie. I’m not sure if they are the types of images I would want engrained in my child’s head before bed.

The big bad wolf is very real in this movie and he has a hunger for human flesh. Don’t say I didn’t warn you.

I give this movie 4/5 stars. Nowadays there are not many movies worth the price of admission but I think “The Grey” would be one of them.

Until next week,.
