SHOWING YOUR HOME?

First impressions can make all the difference. In today’s competitive market, give yourself the edge by ensuring your house stands out. Here are a few tips to show off your home to its best advantage:

1. Get rid of clutter.
– Clean off countertops, make sure dishes are stored away, get rid of excess furniture, clear hallways, make storage areas and closets neat and tidy. Remove excess trinkets, personal photographs and other items that may be distracting. A good way to see your home as others see it is to take photos of each room. You’ll be surprised how different your space looks.

2. Put a fresh face on.
– Make sure that you touch up paint chips, repair any leaky plumbing, tighten up loose door knobs, oil squeaky doors, and generally be sure that your home gives a well-maintained impression.

3. Cleanliness is key
– Make sure that carpets are cleaned and vacuumed, floors are clean, kitchen and bathrooms are sparkling, beds are made, furniture is dusted, and the air is fresh.

4. Create a pleasant atmosphere.
– Remove pets when at all possible, turn on all your lights and open curtains and drapes, create an ambiance with soft music, turn on the fireplace in winter, and air conditioning in summer. Make sure that potential buyer is comfortable.

5. Enhance curb appeal
– Trim hedges, mow the lawn, edge flowerbeds and lawn, be sure there is no litter in your yard, paint and straighten fences. Be sure your sidewalks are clean and free of snow or leaves.
