Nova Scotia lights up scoreboard in final pool play day of Canadian curling jrs

Jan 22, 2019 | 9:58 PM

After Day 4 of the 2019 New Holland Canadian Junior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships in Prince Albert, nobody has scored more points in a single-game Nova Scotia’s Kaitlyn Jones.

Jones and her defending world championship winning team from Nova Scotia of Lauren Lenentine, Karlee Burgess and Lindsey Burgess beat the Nunavut 20-3 on Tuesday night at the Art Hauser Centre. That’s the most points scored in a game so far, in both the women’s and men’s sides.

It was a big win for Nova Scotia, as they were coming off of two recent losses, falling 10-4 to Alberta on Wednesday afternoon, and 8-7 to British Columbia on Tuesday afternoon. They finish up their group stage play with a 4-2 record, good for third place in Pool A behind 6-0 Alberta and 5-1 British Columbia teams.

Sask Watch

On the other side, Sara England and Team Saskatchewan are also in third place with a 4-2 record in Pool B. They beat New Brunswick 8-5 in the Tuesday afternoon to have a plus .500 record heading into the playoffs.

Rylan Kleiter and the Team Saskatchewan men are 5-1. They won their lone game Wednesday night, a 10-2 decision over the Yukon.

Just one tiebreaker

With as close as the standings are, there will be only one tiebreaker game. The Alberta men’s team skipped by Desmond Young will battle against Samuel Steep and Team Ontario at 9 a.m. to decide who will move on to the Championship Pool and who will go to the Seeding Pool.
