UPDATE: Train derailment north of Saskatoon

UPDATE: At 4 p.m. the City of Saskatoon released updated traffic information for the evening drive home. Highway 11 northbound to Warman remain closed past 71st Street due to the train derailment. Northbound traffic remained detoured to Highway 12 past Martensville to Highway 305 and back to Highway 11 to Warman and points north. Wanuskewin Road northbound is closed just past Penner Road. Access is maintained to Cathedral Bluffs.

A CN train derailed Tuesday morning at a rail crossing at Highway 11 and Wanuskewin Road, just north of Saskatoon.

As of 9:45 a.m. Tuesday, emergency crews were responding at the scene and traffic in the area was blocked.

Drivers in the area told 650 CKOM they saw smoke coming from a few rail cars, with the train believed to be carrying wheat.

Drivers were advised to detour around the area using Highway 305 and Highway 12.
