P.A. swimmers make splash at Regina meet

Fourteen locals swimmers achieved some “amazing” results on the weekend in Regina, according to their head coach Hazem Hussein.

A media release from the Prince Albert Sharks swim club said the team put in an array of excellent performances at the Prairie Optimist Cup swim meet from Jan. 18 through Jan.20.

There were personal best swims from more than 87 per cent of those who competed.

Some of the highlights listed by the club included:

Sophie Bilodeau,who came in first in the 200-metre breaststroke, second in the 50-metre breaststroke and sixth in 50-metre backstroke, 100-metre freestyle and 200-metre individual medley races.

Liam Murphy came second in the 50-metre backstroke, third in 100 and 400-metre freestyle and the 50-metre breaststroke races.  He also achieved AA times in 100-metre freestyle, 400-metre freestyle, 1500-metre freestyle, 50-metre backstroke, 100-metre backstroke and 50-metre breaststroke.

Camryn Cooling came fifth in the 50-metre backstroke and seventh in 100-metre backstroke and 400-metre freestyle. She also achieved AA times in the 100-metre and 800-metre freestyle events.

Luthar Wiberg came fourth in 200-metre breaststroke and sixth in 400-metre freestyle, 50-metre backstroke, 50-metre breaststroke and 200-metre individual medley races.

Mackenzie Emery came sixth in 400-metree freestyle race.

Mackenzie Naytowhow came seventh in 50-metre backstroke and 100-metre backstroke.

Dani Boisson achieved an A time in the 100-metre freestyle race.

Soren Hansen came first in 100-metre individual medley and broke the club record for this event. He also placed third in the 200-metre freestyle event.

Sarah Alam came fourth in 100 individual medley and sixth in the 200-metre freestyle event.

Natasha Coertze came third in 100-metre individual medley.

Clara Gelhorn came second in 200-metre freestyle and fifth in 100-metre individual medley races.

Ella Larrea came second in 100-metre individual medley event.

Myla Masko came fifth in 100-metre individual medley event.

Jenna Pshebnicki came seventh in 100-metre individual medley event.
