Mann Art Gallery hosting annual fundraiser tonight

Jan 18, 2019 | 11:45 AM

The Mann Art Gallery’s major fundraiser of the year kicks off tonight with beer and wine tastings, musical entertainment and much more.

The eighth-annual Wolf Back event starts Friday night at 7 p.m. at the gallery. The event features tastings of various craft beers, spirits, wine, cider and non-alcoholic drinks, or mocktails. Musical entertainment will be provided by The Wolfe, Sway and The Untamed.

The fundraiser started as a way to pay for the large wolf that sits outside the Mann Art Gallery. With the wolf now paid for, gallery organizers are continuing the festivities with the new, shortened name of simply Wolf Back.

Lana Wilson, acting director and curator with the Mann Art Gallery, said proceeds from this year’s event will go toward general gallery operations.

“It definitely helps us to put exhibitions on the wall. It helps us to hire artists to lead workshops, and it makes sure that the gallery has all the supplies that it needs to do the work that we do,” Wilson said. “It’s not just a tasting event, the idea is to have a fun party [and] to celebrate local music.”

Advance tickets for Wolf Back are available for $30 until 4:30 today or at the door tonight for $35. Tickets include a four-ounce tasting glass with the Mann Art Gallery logo and five tastings.

Wilson said the event is a great way to try some new flavours, meet the brewers and distillers and take in some great local entertainment. A selection of national and international beers will also be on hand to taste, as chosen by the board and staff at the Mann Art Gallery.

Following the Wolf Back event, gallery organizers will be busy preparing for the Prince Albert Winter Festival art show and sale in February. Michael Peterson with Void Gallery in Saskatoon will be the guest curator for the 2019 event.
