Jan 7, 2019 | 8:35 AM

UPDATE: The city has lifted the snow route parking ban for all priority one streets in Prince Albert.

The City says crews are now moving on to priority two streets, including school zones, bus routes and Central Avenue downtown. The parking ban had been in place since Monday morning.

The city of Prince Albert has issued a snow route parking ban in light of the recent heavy snowfall.

No parking is allowed on priority routes with immediate effect. This may be in effect for 48 hours, although the city said it could end sooner than that.

“We declared [the ban] because we realized that with all the snow that has accumulated it would make it a lot safer and easier for the grader operators to get through the city,” roadways manager Brent Kennedy told paNOW.

According to a media release from the city parking is prohibited on Snow Routes when a Snow Route Parking Ban is declared.

Streets are marked with “No Parking When Declared” signs.

The parking ban will require drivers to immediately remove their vehicles from Snow Routes which are marked by a snow route sign. For City crews to effectively clear all streets marked with a Snow Route Parking Ban sign, vehicles not removed from the street will be ticketed and/or towed at the owner’s expense.

Parking bans are temporary, usually lasting 48 hours, unless persistent snowfall requires a parking ban to be re-declared. In the event that a parking ban is declared, notices will be re-issued and will be posted on the City’s website.

If the Priority One streets are cleared before the 48 hours has lapsed and there is no threat of a continuing storm, the parking ban may be withdrawn sooner.  In this case, a posting will be made on the City website and notifications will be sent to local media.

“Usually we get through a lot quicker than 48 hours, and as soon we’re through we’ll lift the parking ban,” Kennedy said. ”I suspect that will be by late tomorrow.”
