Man suspected of hiding inside P.A. pub arrested

Jan 4, 2019 | 4:00 PM

The experience of one Prince Albert pub manager this week, may serve as a good awareness message for others in the city, who want to avoid any unwanted visitors.

According to a news release from the Prince Albert Police Service, a man hid inside the business Thursday morning, until it was closed. Stacey Free at Roger’s Pub at the Ramada Hotel said she made the decision to close early because she saw only two people sitting in the pub.

“So I closed at a quarter to [1 a.m.] and I guess he came out of the bathroom, after I had locked everything all up, and it was the front desk who realized he was in here because he opened the front door to leave,” she said.

Free told paNOW said nothing was taken, beyond signs the man helped himself to some chips at the counter.

Sean Dieno is the manager at Boston Pizza across the street. He said the incident at Roger’s Pub could have happened anywhere and he will be reminding his own staff to check the bathrooms more often, or at least before they lock the doors.

“Those are all part of the nightly duties regardless, but whether it actually gets completed or not is another story,” he said.

The man, who allegedly hid inside the pub, was arrested by police a short distance away from the business and was charged with breaking out of the premise, and breaching a probation order to keep the peace and be of good behaviour. The 37-year-old man from Whitefish First Nation is scheduled to appear in court today at Prince Albert Provincial Court.
