Mintos score the last six goals to beat Maulers

Dec 14, 2018 | 8:14 PM

Basketball legend Michael Jordan once said, “sometimes you need to get hit in the head to realize that you’re in a fight.”

The Prince Albert Mintos (13-13-0-1) experienced something along those lines in their 6-1 victory over the Yorkton Maulers (4-24) on Friday at the Art Hauser Centre.

Maulers’ Massen Ziola opened the scoring in the second period for the Maulers, but it just took the Mintos two minutes to begin their six consecutive goal onslaught.

Mintos defenceman Chase Fried-Mohr started the rally, with Ashton Ferster scoring 37 seconds after.

Near the end of the second period, Mauler Garrett Ellis took a five-minute major for crosschecking Gavin Ingram. Ingram missed the rest of the second period but was able to return for the third.

Gabe Klassen and Dawson Springer both scored on the major power play to finish the second period with a 4-1 lead.

Springer and Ferster both scored their second goals of the game in the third period.

The Mintos will play their final home game at the Art Hauser Centre before the holidays on Sunday, hosting the Notre Dame Hounds at 1:30 p.m. They’ll then play the Beardy’s Blackhawks on the road on Dec. 20 before the break.
