Sausage thieves unable to spoil community breakfast

Dec 10, 2018 | 12:00 PM

Organizers of a pancake breakfast in Meath Park were shocked Saturday, when they discovered the senior’s centre had been broken into and a box of sausages was missing from the deep freeze.

The incident marked the second time in just under two months, the facility had been targeted by thieves. Senior’s Centre President Fran Aiken said it appears the thieves were only after the sausages.

“We had was some perogies and turkey in there too and they left that so whether they got scared off or not I don’t know,” she said.

Fortunately Sunday’s pancake breakfast was saved as the organizers were able to get some more sausages from Prince Albert. The other break-in happened Halloween night and that time thief/ thieves found money.

“We had money for the float for our perogy supper, and we had the float for our pancake breakfast, I’m not sure of the exact amount,” she said.

Aiken said the group did not report the most recent theft to RCMP but had reported the first incident. Currently there are no security cameras at the senior’s centre but Aiken said the board would be looking at options because of growing frustration.

“To think someone would steal from the seniors…you know we work to make money for the enjoyment for people and they do things like that,” she said.
