Shellbrook’s Fahl qualifies for curling provincials

Shellbrook’s Brooklyn Fahl and her rink punched their tickets to the Junior Men’s and Women’s Provincial Championship Dec. 27-31 in Saskatoon.

The Fahl rink of third Alexis Stochmanski, second Emma Beaulac and lead Kelsey Deptuck, won the C Event of the Junior Women’s Q Spiel this weekend at the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club. Fahl defeated Rosetown’s Kelsey Sommerfeld 4-1 on Sunday to advance.

Fahl had a 2-0 lead after six ends, before Sommefeld got on the board in the eighth end with a single point. Fahl essentially put the game away with a deuce in the ninth end.

Not only were the Junior Women playing this weekend in P.A., but so were the junior men. Saskatoon’s Tanner Kinaschuk won the A Event.

Junior Men’s Qualifiers

Tanner Kinaschuk, Saskatoon defeats Brandon Zuravloff, Yorkton

B Event

Brandon Zuravloff, Yorkton, defeats Kevin Sutherland, North Battleford

C Event

Landon Field, Weyburn, defeats Jayden Bindig, Wadena

Kevin Sutherland, North Battleford, defeats Riley Lloyd, Regina

The winners will move on to the Junior Men’s and Women’s Provincial Championship Dec. 27-31 in Saskatoon. The winners of the provincials will move on to the 2019 Canadian Junior Men’s and Women’s Curling Championships Jan. 19-27 in Prince Albert. Matches will be played at both the Art Hauser Centre and the Prince Albert Golf and Curling Club.
