Buckland Fire and Rescue receives heartwarming donation

Nov 23, 2018 | 9:55 AM

A teddy bear in a time of need helps a local family at a stressful time.

Brock Best, his partner Sandi Horricks, and their three young girls were involved in a car accident last month. When the call went out members of the Buckland Fire and Rescue were the first on the scene.

“The Buckland Fire Department showed up and gave them (the girls) teddy bears, got them all calmed down and made sure we were all ok,” Best explained.

This past Tuesday, Nov. 24 the family wanted to show their appreciation by stopping by the fire hall to make a donation.

A donation of 30 teddy bears were presented to the hall on behalf of the family.

Gary Schrader, the Fire Chief explained why the firefighters always keep a few bears on hand.

“It’s just a matter of giving something to the kids when they are in an accident. They’re in a stressful situation. Teddy bears, kind of help out,” Schrader said the family’s acknowledgement of the hall and its’ members meant a lot.

“We’re out there to help people and whenever we can go above and beyond that’s what we try and do.”

Sandi Horricks said the whole experience has given her family a new found appreciation for the volunteer firefighters.

“We’re really grateful to Buckland, they had a quick response to our accident. The teddy bears they gave our girls definitely comforted them while we were waiting to leave the accident scene.”

After the donation the girls were given a ride in the firetruck.
