The Prince Albert Police Service continues to investigate the death of 13-year-old Wayne Ballantyne, the victim of a car fire May 21 on the 900 block of River Street West.

Sgt. Kelly McLean with the Prince Albert Police Service said that despite stories of the teenager being assaulted prior to his death, there is no evidence in the initial investigation that supports that.

“It’s unsubstantiated by evidence. There’s no evidence on the initial report our investigators got back that he was the subject of any assault,” said McLean.

“Through our inquiries with the public, and our interviews, it was the exact opposite, and it has not been substantiated. No evidence substantiates that (Ballantyne was assaulted), no interviews substantiate that.”
