Hot Scott with a shutout as Raiders win 13th straight

Nov 17, 2018 | 9:16 PM

A day after scoring a goal, Ian Scott pitched a shutout on Saturday in a historically tough building.

Scott stopped all 26 shots he faced as the Raiders beat the Brandon Wheat Kings 6-0 at Westoba Place.

Scott has had a heck of a week. He shutout the Medicine Hat Tigers on Wednesday with 43 saves, scored against the Tri-City Americans on Friday before another clean sheet on Saturday.

He now leads in every WHL goaltending category with a 1.39 goals against average, .950 save percentage, 16 wins and 3 shutouts.

That’s also the Raiders’ lucky 13th straight win, making them officially become the first team in the CHL to reach 20 wins on the season at 20-1. To put that in perspective, the Raiders didn’t celebrate their 20th win until Jan. 27 last season.

Offensively, Sean Montgomery led the way by scoring the pair of power play goals, the first and last of the game.

Montgomery opened up it halfway through the first period, which turned out to be the game winner.

He also closed it out, after scoring on his own rebound in the third period. That’s his 11th goal of the year already, two shy of his career best.

Montgomery played in his 299th game on Saturday in Brandon. He could play his 300th game as soon as Tuesday at the Art Hauser Centre, when the Raiders take on the Lethbridge Hurricanes.

Assuming Montgomery doesn’t miss a game, which he has barely done in his career, he will tie the Raiders franchise record for games played on Feb. 4 against the Edmonton Oil Kings, and will break it on Feb. 8 against the Calgary Hitmen.

The Raiders’ games played record is currently held by Brett Novak, who played 330 games for Prince Albert from 2000-2006.

The last time Montgomery missed a game was Jan. 11, 2017. He’s played the last 122 games. In fact, Montgomery has been an iron man of sorts in his career, he’s only missed 10 out of a possible 309 games.

Did Brett Leason extend his point streak?

Yes, of course he did.

Leason scored his 19th goal of the season, putting the Raiders up 4-0 in the third period.

He also assisted on Montgomery’s second goal of the game.

Nobody else in the WHL has held a scoring streak this year more than 12 games so far. Leason now has 44 points in 21 games.

P.A. penalty? No problem

Noah Gregor scored his third shorthanded goal and the Raiders’ 12 shortie this season. They’ve now scored five more goals down a man, than they’ve given up. The Raiders were also 5-5 on the PK against the Wheat Kings.
