Canada Games Torch Relay stops in P.A.

Nov 8, 2018 | 2:00 PM

The torch for the Canada Games made a stop at the Art Hauser Centre Thursday afternoon.

The flame is making its way to Red Deer, Alta. — the site of the 2019 games.

A number of dignitaries were on hand to welcome the torch and the games delegation. The dignitaries included Prince Albert MP Randy Hoback and Prince Albert Northcote MLA Nicole Rancourt.

Mayor Greg Dionne was unable to attend the event. Representing the City of Prince Albert, Marketing and Sponsorship Coordinator Bruce Vance told paNOW the city welcomed the chance to host the torch as it made its way to Red Deer.

“Certainly the city has a background of hosting major events in the past and to be recognized and be on this tour is certainly of significance,” he said.

The torch ceremony was held in the Johnny Bower lobby at the arena. Vance added welcoming the torch relay to the city provided a good opportunity to show off the other uses for the Hauser.

“It’s great to use the facility for other features and other events like this, so yeah it’s great to see the lobby jammed with people today,” he said.
