Prince Albert’s first cannabis tickets issued

A minor was one of the first recipients of a cannabis ticket issued in Prince Albert.

Spokesperson for the Prince Albert Police Service Alanna Adamko said the infraction was for possession of marijuana by a minor or someone under the age of 19.

The second ticket was for possessing, consuming or distributing cannabis in a vehicle. She said the fine for each of those infractions is $360.

By comparison, police issued eight tickets for alcohol-related offences in the same time period.

Fines for cannabis-related offences range between $200 and $2,250 as per the Cannabis Control Act for Saskatchewan.

Busy weekend for patrol officers

Prince Albert police received 340 calls for service between Friday night and Monday morning. Officers made 58 arrests. The top two calls were for intoxicated people and disturbances.

On Friday night, the Prince Albert Police Service conducted a traffic stop on the 2500 block of Sixth Ave. E. for open alcohol. When officers searched the male suspect, they found a large amount of money, suspected methamphetamine and 10 oxycodone pills. A baton was also found. A 28-year-old man from Prince Albert faces a number of charges.  

In another incident, a home owner on Riverside Drive was lucky to have her keys, purse and other items returned after a suspect entered her house through an unlocked door. When police arrived they found the 42-year-old suspect hiding in a covered garage with the stolen property and arrested him.

The suspects in both of these incidents were expected to answer to the charges in Prince Albert Provincial Court today.
