City looking for community-minded volunteers for boards and committees

Oct 1, 2018 | 11:01 AM

Got something to say? The city is looking for local residents interested in being part of the conversation on civic matters and policy in Prince Albert to fill open seats on a number of local boards and committees.

Seats are open on several, including the golf course advisory committee, destination marketing, board of police commissioners and the property maintenance appeal board. City staff members are also recruiting new volunteer members for the planning advisory and community services committees.

Terri Mercier, corporate legislative manager with the City of Prince Albert, said volunteering on civic committees gives residents the chance to have a say in what happens in the city and is a great way to support their community. Board members are looking for 20 to 30 people to fill various roles, she said.

“We’re looking for people to engage in civic matters and provide some constructive feedback,” Mercier told paNOW. “We’re definitely looking for people who are community-minded and open to conversation.”

Those interested in sitting on one of the boards or committees can fill out an application form online through the city’s website. Applications are also available by visiting city hall.

Applicants are asked to provide information on their interests, work or volunteer experience and qualifications as part of the committee vetting process. Mercier said applicants will be matched with the committee or board that best suits their interests. Newly-appointed members will be able to take part in an orientation session to learn more about their new role, including rules and regulations committees and members must follow.

The deadline to apply to sit on a civic board or committee is Oct. 17.
