Police seize shotgun from snoozing suspect

Sep 24, 2018 | 1:35 PM

As the saying goes, if you snooze you lose.

A 19-year old suspect from the Little Red River First Nation learned this lesson the hard way, after being caught sleeping with a sawed off shotgun in the passenger seat of his car.

Around 2 p.m. on Sept. 23 police seized the firearm, arrested the male and charged him with seven firearms related charges. He is set to make his first appearance in provincial court today.

On Sept. 20, Prince Albert Police Service responded to a call about a stolen vehicle. The van was reported stolen roughly half an hour earlier by residents of a home along the 500 block of 11 St. E.

The van was pulled over and the male driver, a 28-year-old from Prince Albert, and a 28-year-old female passenger were arrested.

A small baggie of methamphetamine was seized from the suspects, who now face possession of stolen property, methamphetamine, two counts of operating a motor vehicle while disqualified and breach of probation charges.

Both suspects made their first court appearances on Sept. 21.

Among their 363 calls for service between Friday night and Monday morning, officers made 89 arrests. The two top calls for service included intoxicated persons and disturbances.
