SaskPower customers southeast of P.A. to benefit from $30 million upgrade

Sep 24, 2018 | 12:00 PM

A major undertaking southeast of Prince Albert could take up to two years to complete.

SaskPower is replacing a 75 kilometre stretch of transmission line. The line, which runs to an area near Beatty, serves as a backup to the main transmission line feeding Prince Albert and surrounding areas. Most of the work around Prince Albert has already been completed.

“This line is made of decades-old wooden structures that have simply reached the end of their expected lifespan. By replacing them with steel ones, we will greatly improve reliability for our customers in the area,” SaskPower’s Vice-President of Transmission and Industrial Services Kory Hayko said in a press release. “For example, if a storm impacts the main line and causes an outage, we will know we can rely on this line to reroute power and get the lights back on as quickly and safely as possible.”

The project comes with an estimated cost of $30 million. SaskPower hopes to have the line in service as early as the spring of 2020, barring any major weather delays.
