Worst of Wollaston Lake fire moves north

Jun 6, 2011 | 6:37 AM

Things seem to be getting better for Wollaston Lake and the Hatchet Lake First Nation on Sunday.

After over a week of fighting raging wildfires, it seems the worst of the blaze has moved north of the communities.

Acting chief of the Hatchet Lake First Nation, Ed Benoanie, says fire crews are still working to protect the community just to be sure the flames don't threaten again.

“They are scanning the area where the fire has pretty much died down, but they’re spotting some hot spots and dropping people (fire fighters) off there to put them out completely.”
