Demolished chunk of Hope’s Home property set for green space, parking

Those travelling along River St. this week may have noticed a sudden empty lot at the end of First Ave. East.

This weekend, Hope’s Home demolished the old Prince Albert Family Church that was attached to the building as it was in dire need of extensive renovations to take it where the facility wanted it to be.

“Financially, it just made more sense to take it down than try and rebuild it,” Mickey Macgillivray, the Early Learning Childcare Manager, said. “A lot of years of history went down, but it had to be done.”

Macgillivray said some of the lot will be converted to green space while the rest is set to be covered in asphalt and made into additional parking for Hope’s Home.
