Astros on their way back from nationals with bronze medal

The Prince Albert Astros are coming back home with a bronze medal from the 2018 Under-18 Men’s Fast Pitch Championships in Napanee, Ontario.

The Astros advanced to the medal rounds after defeating the Delisle Pride 7-6 on Sunday morning. The Astros then fell 6-0 to the hosting Napanee Express.

In all, the Astros finished the tournament with an 8-4 record.

Cayden Schmautz was a huge factor for the Astros both at the plate and on the mound. He hit .344 in 38 plate appearances, hitting a home run with seven runs batted in and six runs scored. He also held a team-best 2.011 ERA as a pitcher, striking out 29 batters in 31.1 innings.

Under-16 Aces

The Under-16 Aces finished up their nationals in Winnipeg with a 2-6 record. They were 1-5 in pool play, before splitting their consolation games, a 9-8 win over the Red Deer Rage and a 6-5 defeat to the Victoria Devils.

Under-14 Aces

The Under-14 Aces ended up with a winning record despite ending up on the consolation side of their nationals in Montreal. The Aces were 3-2 in group play and 4-3 on the tournament, but saw their tournament end with a 7-4 loss to the Port Perry Angels from Ontario. The Aces beat the Saskatoon Hustlers 9-8 in their first playoff game.
