Annual car show revs up crowds

Aug 11, 2018 | 8:57 AM

Rows of classic cars, trucks and even farm vehicles lined the parking lot at the Northern Lights Casino as enthusiasts withstood the searing heat to proudly show off their prized vehicles.

For many, the event was a chance to not only check out some great classic cars but ask questions and get to know those who take part in the show. Gayle Paskaruk was at the show with her orange 1965 Ford Mustang and said she enjoys the event every year.

Paskaruk bought her car – with the original interior – at the Casino event in 2011, but said this is the year she plans to sell it. Paskaruk and her husband enjoyed classic cars together but he passed away four years ago. She still appreciates the display and has plans to restore an old 1983 Ford F150 truck soon.

“My husband was a Ford man so I guess I’m a Ford woman,” Paskaruk told paNOW. “I love Mustangs, I love the colour of this one, and the older the better.”

Claudette Mooney was at the car show too and has a car that often turns heads. The MacDowall resident has attended for the last four years. Mooney owns a 1970 VW Beetle painted just like Herbie from the 1968 classic film The Love Bug. Mooney bought the car a couple of years ago from a couple in Comox, B.C.

Mooney’s husband, Darrell, was also in the show with his Corvette.

“The biggest thing with Herbie, The Love Bug, is it doesn’t matter who you are or where you are, you have to be in the mood to be happy because everybody smiles, everybody waves, people will pass you waving, it just brings back a lot of memories for a lot of people,” Mooney said.
