The Patuanak RCMP have charged two men with bootlegging after they were allegedly caught trying to bring a large quantity of alcohol into English River First Nation, a dry northern community.

RCMP said police received information on “a well-known bootlegging operation in the Patuanak area” which allowed them to locate two individuals involved on Aug. 8. The two men were transporting liquor valued at approximately $1,200 into the community, police said. Both were charged with bootlegging offences and are scheduled to appear in English River Provincial Court on Sept. 25.

RCMP released a photo of the seized alcohol, which consisted of 17 bottles of hard liquor and a case of Kokanee beer.

Anyone with information on the illegal sale of alcohol was asked to contact RCMP or Crime Stoppers.
