Signs damaged in Candle Lake, village offers reward

Community officials in Candle Lake are offering a reward for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the vandals responsible for damaging a number of signs in the village over the long weekend.

The Resort Village of Candle Lake is offering a $500 reward for information about the vandalism after more than 20 street and road signs were damaged in the community. Mayor Borden Wasyluk said the vandalism has happened before, but the community is fed up.

“It went all the way from the downtown turnoff to the industrial area, all the way to Highway 220 plus all the way to the golf course,” Wasyluk told paNOW. “Those are quite expensive. You have to get new posts and then go around and put everything back in, and it costs us hundreds of dollars for every weekend when this occurs.”

This is the first time the village has offered a reward for information about the damage, and Wasyluk said officials would definitely like to see charges laid in connection with the incident. He said the vandalism creates safety hazards, and is a waste of taxpayers’ money.
