The Prince Albert Rifle and Pistol Club was popping over the past week, as it played host to the Canadian National Rifle Silhouette Championships.

Shooters from across western Canada and the United States gathered for a week of competition.

Derek Budd walked away with the national champ title in the Smallbore Standard Rifle category, scoring nearly a full 20 points more than the second place competitor in the AAA group. Budd also won the Smallbore Hunting Rifle category for the AAA shooters, tallying 81 points.

Meadow Lake’s Neil Suttill placed first in the Master division with 85 points in the Smallbore Hunting Rifle category. Dave Johnston, from Big Valley, Alta. edged out George Kesic to win the Smallbore Standard Rifle category in the Master division.

Johnston also topped in the Highpower Hunting Rifle category, earning the title of champ in the Master division with a total of 70 points. Dave Johnson topped the AAA category, earning 58 points, beating Patti Suttill`s 56.

Johnston also earned the champ title in the Highpower Standard Rifle with a total of 66 points.

While the weather was wild through the week, Silhouette Director Chris Conant said things cooperated for the shooters.

“It’s gone really smoothly, we had good turnout, guys have been having fun, it’s gone really well,” Conant said. “The rain has been coming after we’re done shooting most days, it’s worked out really nicely.”
