The homeland of the Métis will be bustling over the weekend.

Back to Batoche celebrations are set to take place between July 19 and 22. The annual festival features jigging, square dancing, storytelling, youth entertainment along with a variety of competitions and a gospel show.

Activities aside, a historic signing agreement will be conducted on July 20 between the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan, the Métis National Council and the federal Government of Canada according to a press release issued by the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan.

Memorandums of Understanding between the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan, the Saskatchewan Health Authority and the Saskatchewan School Board Association will be signed as well.

Former Veterans Affairs Minister for the Métis Nation – Saskatchewan and Veteran’s Monument Champion Lennard Morin is set to be honoured during the 2018 festivities.

A beading workshop will also take place on Friday, July 20 and Saturday, July 21, which costs $35 to participate; supplies are included in the registration fee.

Weekend passes to attend the festival are free to attend for youth 12 and under, as well as seniors over 60 and veterans. Youths aged 13 to 17 and students with valid ID can expect to pay $25 for a weekend pass; adults will pay $30.

Daily rates are $10 for adults and youths 13 to 17. Daily admission is free for youths 12 and under as well as seniors and veterans.

Camping at the festival is an option, however all powered campsites have already been booked. Non-powered and tenting spots are still available to rent.
