Jul 9, 2018 | 5:00 PM

Police from different agencies teamed up last week in Prince Albert to address common issues on the roads. During the two-day traffic blitz Thursday and Friday, officers handed out 249 tickets and 100 warnings.

In addition to officers from the Prince Albert Police Service, the blitz included partner agencies like the newly-formed Saskatchewan Highway Patrol and RCMP. Together, they issued 125 speeding tickets, 24 tickets for cell phone use, 49 tickets for seat belt violations, 22 citations for vehicles that were not up to regulatory standards, 10 tickets for unregistered vehicles, and several tickets for other violations including driving without a licence.

The blitz was part of the Selective Traffic Enforcement Program, a multi-agency task force which enacts strategies aimed at improving safety on Saskatchewan’s roadways. The task force includes the Prince Albert Police Service, Saskatoon Police Service, RCMP, and Highway Patrol, with assistance from SGI and other government agencies.
