Fonstad heads to Montreal in NHL Entry Draft

Brush up on your French Cole Fonstad, you’re heading to Montreal. 

In the fifth round of the NHL Entry Draft, the Montreal Canadiens selected the Prince Albert Raiders sophomore forward 128th overall. 

Fonstad led all 2000-born skaters in the WHL in scoring with 73 points in a full 72-game season.

His selection marks the eighth year in a row that a Raider has been chosen in the NHL Draft.

He’s also the 11th Raider to get picked in the NHL Entry Draft in that span. Here are the rest during that streak.

2017- Ian Scott, fourth round, 110th overall to the Toronto Maple Leafs

2016– Vojtech Budik, fifth round, 130th overall to the Buffalo Sabres

2015- Brendan Guhle, second round, 51st overall to the Buffalo Sabres

Matteo Gennaro, seventh round, 203rd overall to the Winnipeg Jets

2014– Leon Draisaitl, first round, third overall to the Edmonton Oilers

Mackenze Stewart, seventh round, 186th overall to the Vancouver Canucks

2013- Josh Morrissey, first round, 13th overall to the Winnipeg Jets

2012- Mike Winther, second round, 54th overall to the Dallas Stars

2011- Mark McNeill, first round, 18th overall to the Chicago Blackhawks

Harrison Ruopp, third round, 84th overall to the Phoenix Coyotes
