350-hectare wildfire burning east of Montreal Lake

Jun 19, 2018 | 2:00 PM

Warm temperatures are here once again, making conditions right for wildfires.

Firefighters are currently battling an uncontained 350-hectare blaze 13 kilometres east of Montreal Lake.

The Ministry of Environment said the fire was caused by lightning and was first reported Monday. Roughly 30 personnel are fighting the fire on the ground with five bulldozers and three helicopters, and the ministry said air tankers are also available to the firefighters if needed.

paNOW heard from motorists who noted a lot of smoke Monday, but the skies had largely dissipated Tuesday.
