Rawlinson Centre teases upcoming season at showcase

Jun 15, 2018 | 5:00 PM

Audiences will stomp along with a legendary tribute artist and enjoy theatre, dance and a wide range of local acts during the Fall/Winter Season at the E.A. Rawlinson Centre.

An eager crowd packed into the theatre Thursday night to watch the curtain rise on a special preview of the acts scheduled in the coming months. A wide range of artists are slated to perform in the upcoming season, from the son of Stompin’ Tom Connors, Taw, to Canadian singer-songwriter Jann Arden, along with a slew of country artists, plays, and dance performances.

The new manager of the centre, Roxanne Dicke, was elated to tease audiences with a hint of what is to come.

“It is about building excitement,” she said. “We are inundated with information in our culture, online and in every way, so to just come together and gather and say, ‘I envision myself being here and present and not watching it on YouTube or Netflix’ is important. Being part of a community and watching it together is a different experience.”

Dicke said the wide range of talented performers will help “feed and grow our arts community.”

Only a few weeks into her new role, Dicke said she believes the local arts scene is on the cusp of entering a new period of growth. She said it is heartening for her to be a part of it and hold a pivotal role.

“We could all choose to be in other communities, but staying in Prince Albert and seeing it take root and grow is what I am committed to and am passionate about,” she said. “I think it enhances our quality of life. For me, seeing that growth and uptick in interest and understanding that arts actually feed our everyday lives is an exciting place to be.”
