Three new P.A. police officers hit the streets

Three new police officers are hitting the streets of Prince Albert this week.

Constables Nicholas Danyliuk, Harlovepreet Gahrha, and Elvin Benitez had their first taste of patrol Monday after completing their Saskatchewan Police College training. Sgt. Travis Willie, who chairs the recruitment board for the police service, said every new officer starts on patrol for a few years before moving into a more specialized role.

“You’re exposed to everything on patrol,” Willie said. “We like them to have five years of experience on the street.”

While at the police college, Willie said Const. Gahrha picked up the academic award, shared with another recruit. The academic side of police training can be very difficult, Willie noted, as the recruits study subjects like psychology and law at the post-secondary level.
