Police arrest man carrying butcher knife

A Prince Albert police officer drew a Taser after a suspect carrying a knife refused to comply with commands early Sunday morning.

Officers were called to 12th St. W. and First Ave. W. for a weapons call shortly after midnight June 2. According to a police spokesperson, when officers located the suspect he initially kept his hands in his pockets and refused to comply with their orders. The suspect became much more compliant and surrendered, police said, after an officer withdrew a Taser and repeated the commands.

Police said the suspect, a 52-year-old Prince Albert man, was found to be carrying a large butcher knife. He was charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public peace and carrying a concealed weapon. The suspect, who is presumed innocent at this stage, was scheduled to make his first appearance this morning in Prince Albert Provincial Court.

Impaired driver tries to walk away from scene

Police caught up with an alleged impaired driver in the early-morning hours of June 2, after he tried to walk away from the scene of an accident.

According to police, officers attended the scene of a two-vehicle accident in the 900-Block of First Ave. W. just after 3 a.m. Saturday. A male driver involved in the crash attempted to leave the scene on foot before police arrived, but he was located and arrested short distance away.

The driver who tried to flee failed breathalyzer tests, police said, and was charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle, exceeding .08, intending to escape the scene of an accident after being in care and control of a motor vehicle, and breaching an undertaking. The 30-year-old suspect from Prince Albert is scheduled to make his first court appearance this morning, and is presumed innocent at this stage.
