May 17, 2018 | 12:00 PM

Canada has been placed in the same preliminary-round group as the highly-rated New Zealand team for the Junior Men’s Softball World Championship, which Prince Albert is hosting this summer.

Marking the 50-day countdown to the start of the tournament Thursday, the World Baseball Softball Confederation unveiled the groups and their 54-game schedule.

The event runs from July 7 to 15, and thirteen teams will compete over a total of 54 games for the title. Canada is ranked as the second seed behind the top-ranked Kiwis in Pool B.

Japan and Argentina, ranked as the third and fourth seeds, will top Pool A.

The 13-nation field also includes teams from the USA, Australia, Czech Republic, Mexico, Denmark, South Africa, Guatemala, India, and Hong Kong. The top four nations from each pool group will advance to the playoffs.

“This global showcase will feature the top young under-19 men’s softball players in the world and National Teams from five continents,” WBSC Softball Division Chairman Tommy Velazquez said in a statement. “The hosts in Prince Albert are ready to roll out an exciting world stage for these elite athletes.”

There will be a total of seven games on opening day July 7 at Prince Albert’s Max Power Ball Parks, with Mexico and Denmark’s 10 a.m. contest serving as the official opener. Following the opening ceremony at 6:00 p.m, host nation Canada will take on their American rivals at 7:30.

All of Canada’s games during the six days of pool action will be evening affairs.

The final will be played Sunday, July 15 at 3 p.m., following the bronze medal game at 12 p.m.

Tickets sales for the tournament have already begun, with early bird specials now available. Children under the age of 12, accompanied by a parent or guardian, are admitted free of charge.
