OESTERSUND, Sweden — Canada won gold in the men’s and women’s competitions Saturday at the world senior curling championships at the Ostersund Arena.

Sherry Anderson’s Saskatoon team of third Patty Hersikorn, second Brenda Goertzen and lead Anita Silvernagle beat the United States 5-4 in the final.

“World champion sounds marvellous, it really does,” Anderson said, a former Prince Albert curler. “I’ve been playing this sport a long time trying to get this title, so it’s really sweet.”

Switzerland topped Sweden 5-3 to win bronze.
