The importance of food in fundraising: Rotary honours local caterer

Good food can be a very important element in bringing people together for community fundraising; it’s a reason why certain events and organizations get a name for themselves as they strive to reach their goals.

The Rotary Club of Prince Albert recognizes that, and Monday night paid tribute to someone they think went above and beyond in helping them make an impact.

Local caterer and restaurateur Randy Whitter with My Place Catering, who is not a Rotary member, was awarded with an honorary Paul Harris Fellowship, which is occasionally given to a person who the organization deems to be deserving.

“We realize good food is important but we also knew we were assisting them in raising funds for such good causes,” Whitter, who has helped Rotary for about 20 years told paNOW. “Food is a big deal and people have a tendency to remember that and it’s a great way of bringing people together.”

Whitter has delivered a quality service for many Rotary occasions including the regular Wine Premier and LobsterFest events.

“We’ve developed a tremendous amount of long term relationships over the years and knowing that people are counting on you to help them deliver new and innovative ways of fundraising [ is special],” Whitter said.

Dr Nnamdi Ndubuka, the President of P.A. Rotary Club said Whitter was a standout part of what they do.

“He’s been of immense support to all our programs and he’s a true friend of Rotary and we’re really pleased to honor him with the award,” Ndubuka said.

Monday night’s event also honoured several Rotarians who contributed $1,000 or more to the Rotary International Fund.

Ndubuka said the P.A. club’s key projects currently include the field at which the World Junior Softball tournament will be played this year, their ongoing youth engagement and employment programs and preparations for next year’s 100th anniversary of Rotary in the city.
