P.A. bowlers heading to five pin national championships

Apr 13, 2018 | 12:00 PM

Four Prince Albert bowlers will be competing in a national five pin bowling tournament later this month.

Shaunnah Litwin, Ryan Dewhurst, Myron Ouellette and Cora-Lee White-Furi, who call themselves the Rising Stars, along with coach Dallas Vandale will be heading to Charlottetown, PEI on April 25 to try to take the title.

Cora-Lee White-Furi said the journey started after they competed in the zone qualifier.

“We ended up finishing first in the round robin. That led us to the step ladder where we played Moose Jaw and beat them and then we got to play Regina and we won that game which got us to nationals,” she said.

She said this team got their start in Prince Albert and the sport is so inclusive anyone could in future take them on.

“It’s run through our house leagues in Prince Albert,” White -Furi said. “Anyone can bowl and anyone can compete. From there you can head to local tournaments and compete for provincials in another city. It’s usually Regina or Saskatoon. From there you can have an opportunity to compete for nationals.”

White-Furi says the team will hold a fundraiser Saturday, April 14 at Minto Bowl to help them get to Prince Edward Island.

“We’re having a Glow Bowl fundraiser from 10 p.m. until midnight and have raffle prizes at the alley and tickets for a liquor basket as well,” she added.

The lanes are sold out with limited tickets remaining for the fundraiser.
