Pro-life conference stopping into Prince Albert

Apr 13, 2018 | 2:00 PM

The Gateway to the North will be hosting a pro-life conference, organized by the Saskatchewan Pro-life Association and the Prince Albert Right to Life groups this month.

Dorothy Kawula, a contact for the Prince Albert Right to Life Group, said the theme for this year’s gathering is “Make Time for Life.”

“A lot of [the discussions] are focusing on end of life and euthanasia,” she said. “However, of course, life issues encompass so much more than that, but because of the timeliness… it ended up being a lot of focus on end of life.”

Local and provincial figures and people from across Canada are speaking at the conference.

Lawyer Phillip Fourier will speak about conscience protection. Seniors advocate John Fryters will also make an appearance at the conference to discuss senior’s issues. Natalie Sonnen will discuss end of life care and end of life decisions. A member of the group Right Now will be present to discuss life issues, and their role in politics.

Plaza 88 will be the first location in Prince Albert to host this kind of event.

“Every year we host it somewhere else in the province, and I think this is the first time that Prince Albert has hosted it, so that’s quite exciting,” Kawula said.

She said she’s looking forward to a private screening of Because of Gracia, an award winning film written and directed by Tim Simes from Saskatoon. The screening takes place on Friday night, as part of the opening of the pro-life conference.

Kawula said the showing of Because of Gracia is private, however anyone who would like to see the movie will be allowed to attend as long as seating is available.

The Prince Albert Right to Life Group is the same group fighting the city for a right to fly this flag at the guest flag pole outside of city hall.
