Moose Jaw hockey fans ‘rattled’ by Raiders rally: Former P.A. resident

A lot of hockey fans in Moose Jaw had their confidence shaken, according to a former Prince Albert resident who lives in the friendly city now.

Matt Gray moved to Moose Jaw several years ago but remains a faithful Raiders fan. He told paNOW a lot of people in Moose Jaw thought they had the series in the bag.

“The fans here are rattled because [the Warriors] pretty much had their way all year, you know second ranked in the country and then in walks in Prince Albert and takes it to them,” Gray said.

The Raiders fell 3-1 in the series but clawed their way back. Gray said he tried to go to as many games as possible this year with his two children. He said for the most part people in Moose Jaw give him a gentle ribbing when he wears his vintage 1987 Raiders jacket to the games.

“I think it’s going to be a bit different now in that there’s a real concern that they are gonna lose this next game,” he said.

Gray said he hopes to make it to game seven but was not sure as tickets for the last game in Moose Jaw sold out very quickly.

For their part the Prince Albert want to get as many Raiders fans to Moose Jaw as possible for Tuesday night’s game. A fan bus was booked and will leave the Art Hauser Centre parking lot at 2 p.m. At a cost of $70, fans can get a ticket to the game as well as a ride to and from Moose Jaw. Business manager Michael Scissons told paNOW the bus seats will go on a ‘first come first serve” basis. The Raiders office will open at 9 a.m. on Tuesday.

Anyone who cannot make it down to Moose Jaw but still wants to watch the game, can do so at the Ches Leach lounge. The Prince Albert Raiders announced they will host a watch party there. The cost for a seat is a $5 donation which goes toward the Raiders’ education fund.
