Save On Foods opening imminent

Mar 28, 2018 | 5:00 PM

The eagerly-anticipated opening of the city’s newest grocery store appears imminent.

Staff at Save On Foods at the Prince Albert Crossings are finishing the interior and bringing in stock.

“We’re still in a construction zone but that’s basically done,” manager Warren McGlone told paNOW. “We’ve already passed our health inspection and now we’re getting team members in to start filling the shelves. The food is rolling in and we’re getting pretty close here.”

McGlone couldn’t say exactly how close he was to opening the doors other than it would be in April and a date would be announced “very soon.”

In the meantime staff were putting the finishing touches to what is a state-of-the-art 36,000 square-foot layout. McGlone said the company was always tweaking to produce the best experience for shoppers.

“We learn and change things all the time and this is the latest and greatest [store] the company has to offer at this time,” he said.

Prince Albert already has a high quality and competitive grocery store market and McGlone said there was room for the Save On Foods brand.

“We offer great perishable departments and we focus on fresh, friendly and clean stores,” he said. “We have great take home meal ideas and it all starts with our service; we go the extra mile for our customers.”

Something he’s particularly happy about is the amount of local hires for what will be a big employer in the city.

“We have 160 team members and all but five of those have come from Prince Albert so we’re excited about that,” he said.

In the meantime McGlone said the public should standby for some news.

“It’s getting super exciting so keep your ear to the ground; we have some announcements coming real soon,” he said.

Both paNOW and the Save-On Foods chain are owned by Jim Pattison.
