A Prince Albert resident apprehended a machete wielding thief over the weekend.
In the early morning hours of March 10, the Prince Albert Police Service was dispatched to a residence along 22nd Street East for a disturbance call. Upon their arrival, they were able to arrest a break-and-enter suspect, who was being held in the yard by the home owner.
According to a release issued by police, the suspect was carrying a machete however the homeowner was able to apprehend the weapon after the would-be thief dropped it on the ground. Video footage of the incident was turned over to police.
A 21-year-old male from Prince Albert was charged with possession of a weapon for a purpose dangerous to the public peace, loitering on property, and breach of probation.
The suspect was set to make their first appearance in a Prince Albert courtroom today.
Police also responded to a mischief complaint in the early morning hours of March 10.
Two suspects were seen at the end of a drive way at a residence on the 900 block of Sanderson Cres. carrying a large handbag.
The handbag was searched and items which were taken from an unlocked vehicle were later returned to their owner.
Officers were able to arrest one suspect, however the second individual fled on foot. He is still at large.
The 20-year-old male who was apprehended was charged with stealing property not exceeding $5,000, committing mischief, obstruction of peace officers by failing to provide his name, loitering on property, and breach of probation.
