Sask. Health Authority investigates letter delay

Mar 10, 2018 | 10:00 AM

The Saskatchewan Health Authority and 3sHealth have confirmed they are looking into the reason why hundreds of referral and follow-up letters were delayed in distribution.

These letters, which were sent to specialists and the Saskatchewan Cancer Agency, have impacted 250 patients throughout the province, according to the health authority.

In a news release, the SHA and 3sHealth said they have taken immediate measures to correct this issue. 3sHealth has also said it will be completing additional auditing to determine if there are any further cases.

All physicians who have been impacted by the issue are working with the SHA and 3sHealth to ensure proper investigation and assessment into any potential for harm to the patients affected by the delay in distribution. Patients who have been affected by the delay will receive direct contact from the authority, including direction on who they can contact if they have additional questions.

The Saskatchewan Health Authority and 3sHealth have said they are now working on process improvements to ensure that this issue does not occur in the future.
