P.A. man assaulted with bike frame

Jan 31, 2018 | 7:00 AM

A Prince Albert man says he was hit with a bike frame multiple times after offering a stranger a cigarette.

The assault happened last Sunday night, outside a downtown apartment building.

The 47-year-old man, who asked to remain nameless to protect himself and his young son, said he was taking out the garbage when he was approached by the stranger.

“He asked me for a drag and I just gave him the rest… no ‘thank you’ but I said ‘you’re welcome,’” he said.

At that point the man turned to go back inside the building but was attacked by the stranger who was carrying a bike frame.

“I remember (being hit) five times and at least three or more [hits to my] head,” the man said.

The man said he suffered multiple cuts to his head and right arm. He also has a black eye and a bruise on his ribs. To this day he said he still has no idea what made his attacker so angry.

“Yeah I don’t know why he was so angry I think he was high on something,” he said.

The man, who now refuses to go outside after dark, said he would like these acts of violence and theft to stop.

“It is giving the city a bad rap and this used to be such a safe city; in the past back in the early 80s you could leave your doors unlocked and bikes out in plain view,” he said.

The Prince Albert Police Service confirmed they are investigating the incident. So far there have been no arrests.
